Review of restaurant Stanislavski, Stadsschouwburg, Amsterdam

Stanislavski is the name of the restaurant that has been opened in the recently refurbished Stadsschouwburg of Amsterdam. Stanislavski is the name of the actor who made a big contribution to the acting trade, so it’s an apt name for a restaurant located in the city theater. The Stadsschouwburg has been beautifully refurbished and the restaurant spans the ground floor and up to the first floor where you can also sit on the Ajax terrace on a nice day and enjoy the sunshine and the view, which is amazing.

My friend and me took a seat close to the entry and soon we were greeted by a very friendly girl who brought us some menu’s and explained to us that for the lunch they had a slice of bread for which you can choose up to three toppings. Then the girl asked us for drink and I ordered an applejuice for drinking and my friend needed a coffee.

For breakfast they have a different menu till one o’clock, but the menu for lunch and dinner are the same. The menu is quite is extensive with different choices of starters and main courses. But that was a bit much for me, so I decided to take the slice of bread with avocado-shrimp and veal with tuna mayonnaise and my friend the same.

After we placed the order it took some time before it arrived. When it did we were quite disappointed. The slice of bread was quite small, not really worth the six euro they charge for it. I think it was about a euro per bite Also you had to look very hard for the shrimp in the avocado-shrimp topping. My friend even asked one of the waitresses about it and she stammered something about the shrimp being blended in or something. After some investigation I did manage to find two tiny pieces of shrimp in avocado.

After finishing our bread, which didn’t take long, and our drinks it took some effort to flag down a member of the staff for the bill. In the end we managed and we could leave.

Stanislavski is a beautiful, but overpriced restaurant. The staff is friendly, but it’s hard to get their attention. I would recommend it for just having a drink on the terrace in the summer.
