Metz & Co restaurant viewToday I met my friend in Leidseplein like most of the times, but this time he was lazy for going any place further away. So we decided to go to the restaurant on top of the Metz & Co store in the Leidsestraat. Now Metz & Co is a kind of posh place. It’s located in a beautiful building and features departments with all the expensive brands, like Armani, Hugo Boss, etc. Although they want to be posh, it doesn’t seems to work out for them. Especially the shop windows are a bit of a disaster sometimes. Once they had a Dolce & Gabbana bikini brief in the window with the hygiene sticker still in place. Not a pretty sight. And this summer they had a fruit fly graveyard in the window. Not intended of course, but the flowers attracted the flies and nobody bothered to clean it up.

Metz & Co restaurant viewAnyway we took the lift to the top floor where the restaurant is located. Now this place has one of the best views of Amsterdam, so sneak in to have a look even if you don’t want to eat here. We were in luck and some people just vacated a table in the window, which we immediately took of course. Not long after we sat down, a waitress came to our table, asking for our drinks and if we were there for lunch. I ordered a fresh orange juice and my friend a coffee. When we got the menu I was quite shocked. The prices were amazing. Sandwiches started at a little under 10 euros and salads at over 12 euros. My friend immediately lost his appetite with these prices, but I was hungry so I ordered the tuscan sandwich.

A little later the drinks arrived. My orange juice came in a wine glass, so not a generous portion. My friend at least got a small cookie with his coffee ;-) After some time my sandwich arrived. It was not so big either. The bread was quite tough and crunchy like in the Mediterranean and it was quite tasty, but not 9,75 tasty! After finishing everything, the waiters were quite prompt in cleaning our table. We didn’t feel like moving just yet though, so we stayed a bit longer to enjoy the view, much to the chagrin of some people wanting our table ;-) We paid up at the bar, because when we wanted to leave it was quite impossible to get a waiter. And 20 euro lighter for a coffee, juice and sandwich we left.

The Metz & Co restaurant has a great view, but is terribly expensive. So bring a big wallet if you want to eat here.
