Where to get the best burgers in Amsterdam? Burger restaurant Burgermeester (= master of burgers or mayor, depending on how you interpret it
) claims it is at their restaurant. So we decided to investigate.
Burgermeester is located in de Pijp area of Amsterdam just off the Albert Cuyp market. It is quite a small place and when we entered all the seats were taken already. There were only about 5 or 6 tables so that wasn’t difficult and there was already another couple waiting there for a table. My friend really wanted to try it, so we decided to wait too. While waiting we had a good opportunity to check out the menu. Burgermeester serves burgers of course, but different from the ones of McDonalds or Burger King. They have beef, lam or turkey or salmon burgers. And for the vegetarians they even have lentil burgers or burgers with goat cheese. Each you can order as regular size or a mini. They also offer some side dishes and fresh juices. I also noticed that they had opened a new location at the Elandsgracht last month.
While waiting the window table slowly opened up, so we quickly occupied it. You have to order at the counter, so my friend ordered there for us. We decided to have a trio of mini burgers, salmon, beef and lentils. And because we saw that the mini burgers are really mini, we also took a baked potato and a green salad. For drinking we took some fresh juices.
Because they cook everything to order and just before us a group of tourist had made a big order, we had to wait quite a while for the order to arrive. The juices we got immediately though. When we started eating I understood why this place is so popular. The burgers really are delicious! Especially the lentil burger was fabulous, so now vegetarians can have a nice burger too. The potato and green salad were simple, but both tasted good too.
After we finished we just had to order dessert. Our eye had spotted the fig brownie and the white chocolate cheese cake on the menu. We just had to try that. The brownie was quite dry and solid, but still tasty. The cheese cake was fabulous, although the sauce that came with it was so sweet I felt it attacking my teeth immediately
By then we were stuffed so we paid up at the counter. It wasn’t even so expensive, under 25 euro for 2.
Burgermeester claims rightly so that it has the best burgers in Amsterdam. Only it so popular that it can get very busy.
