Review of coffee place Coffee Company, 1ste v/d Helststraat, Amsterdam

The Coffee Company is like Starbucks, but then it does have locations in Amsterdam itself. Instead of Starbucks which is still only at the airport At the Coffee Company, depending on the size of the location, you can get all kinds of coffees and tea, iced cappuccino for a hot day, sweets and pastries, and some pre-packed sandwiches for lunch. I recommend you try the breakfast sandwich on chocolate bread with strawberry jam and cream. Yummy.

Anyway after having a sandwich with herring (typical dutch thing) at a fish shop, my friend had to treat me to a coffee, because he was very late for our appointment today. Since the Coffee Company is just 2 doors down, we decided to go there. The Coffee Company on the 1ste Van Der Helststraat is not super big. They have two big tables outside, which are full most of the time and some seats within. We managed to obtain a table in the window inside, cause the weather was not nice enough for us to sit outside.

I waited while my friend ordered. The place was quite busy. De Pijp area of Amsterdam is considered quite bohemian and hip by some dutch people, so there are lots of young people running around there each trying to be more trendy than the other (and each of them failing miserably ). And since coffee places are hot, the Coffee Company here is full with these people. It took quite some time for my friend to return with my latte and chocolate cake and his iced cappuccino. He complained that the girl forgot to make the iced cappuccino because she was too busy talking to her colleagues instead of helping the people. I was watching the bar with the girls helping the customers while waiting and I have to say it was very chaotic.

While we were complaining, I shared my hair in iced cappuccino horror story that happened to me the day before in another Coffee Company. When I had almost finished my iced cappuccino there I suddenly found a big black hair in my mouth. I don’t have black hair, so it was not mine. I opened my cup and found two more hairs. I went back to the counter and the girl was quite apologetic and made me a new one for free, but still…
Anyway no hairs in my coffee at this Coffee Company and the chocolate cake was delicious.

The Coffee Company - 1ste v/d Helst is quite a busy place where the staff could work more effeciently. The coffee and sweets are good though.
