Cafe Restaurant Walem AmsterdamLocated on the Keizersgracht between Leidseplein en Koningsplein, I have to admit Walem is not one of my favorite places. It reminds me a bit of Cafe de Jaren, but then 10 times worse. That said the rest of my review will be very objective ;-)

After having a juice and a muffin at the Bagels & Beans we decided to have a coffee somewhere, because my friend had made himself homeless and he was too lazy to walk further (I won’t go further into this, not to embarrass him too much :-) ). So off to Walem it was. We went inside and took a table and waited and waited and waited. None of the staff noticed us, because they were too busy with themselves. I think it is the fashion there to have long hair for both women and men and check your hair as often as possible in the mirrors that are on the walls and fix it if one hair is out of place.

A little later a friend of my friend showed up who was working there by coincidence. She said hi to my friend and asked if we had ordered yet. We said no and that we had been waiting for quite a while. She said that is was just the changing of the shift and that’s why it was a bit of a mess. Anyway we ordered 2 lattes with her. And then we waited another long time before they arrived. By then the place had started to fill with people for dinner and it was getting more busy.

While we were there 2 famous dutch people passed by. First Jort Kelder sneaked out of the place and then later Bram Moszkowicz, a famous dutch lawyer, sat down at the table next to us for some drinks and snacks.

Anyway it was getting late, so we asked for the bill and paid up. The guy that brought us the bill was quite friendly, but not friendly enough to make up for the long wait haha!

Walem is a bit snobby place, the staff can be a little more attentive especially during shift change. The coffee was not too bad though.
