Close to Central Station on the top floor of the new building of the public library of Amsterdam (OBA) La Place has opened a new location. It was in the local news right after opening, because it was robbed twice! That peeked our curiosity, so today we finally decided to visit it. To get to the top floor you can take the lift or the escalators. We took the escalators so we could see the new building as we were going up. We were quite impressed. It all very white and modern. After 6 floors, if I counted right, we finally reached the La Place. It was also quite impressive. The interior is very modern and there is also a balcony where you can sit outside and watch the water and the Amsterdam skyline.
La Place is self-service so we took our tray and had a look at the selection. The selection is more limited than at the location at the V&D in the Kalverstraat, but we found some tasty things. There was an offer on the fish, where you got a whole fish with potatoes and spinach for only six euros! We both decided to go for the fish. The only downside was that we had to wait 8 minutes for the fish to cook. We took up a seat and waited for the fish to be finished.
When the fish was almost done, we went back and then our eyes fell on the chocolate cake. But there was only one piece left! My friend asked the girl behind the counter if they had more. A little later she came with five more pieces. So in the end we both took the fish, a piece of chocolate cake for later and a fresh juice. By then the fish was finished and the cook was dressing the plates. We both got a generous amount of potatoes and curry sauce. 
After paying we took a table and dug into our meal. And it was a whole meal. When I finished my plate, I already felt stuffed. My friend took a bit longer and when he finished I went to get us coffees to go with the chocolate cake. When I got to the coffee corner there was quite a long queue and when it was my turn I found I why. Only one of the two coffee machines was working, so they could only make one coffee at a time. I returned with the coffees to my friend and it took me a while to munch down the cake after the big plate of fish!
Since they place just openend I think they have some start up problems. There were a lot of trays with dirty dishes throughout the eating area and no one was cleaning them up. Also at the place where you are supposed to bring your dirty dishes there was hardly any place for putting them.
Anyway the La Place at the OBA is still a nice location to come to have a bit or a coffee. You can get a whole meal for a nice price and in a nice setting too. Just don’t look at the dirty dishes
