Golden TempleSaturday evening and looking for a place to eat. After feeling like Josef and Mary, being turned down at restaurants because you have no reservation, we stumbled across The Golden Temple at the end of the Utrechtsestraat. Now from the outside it looked rather quiet, but inside it was full of reservation signs on the free tables. Luckily there was also an upstairs, so we could sit there.

Now this place is rather unique, it’s vegetarian and owned by yogis I think, because the second floor didn’t have chairs. It was very Japanese with low tables and cushions to sit on. We were to first ones up there, so we had our pick of the tables.
A little later the waiter came with the menus and a small drink on the house. It was their specialty, some kind of ice tea with ginger. It had quite an interesting flavor.

After a little while more a waitress came to take our order. The menu is all vegetarian and has some Italian and Mexican style things on it, next to some Indian dishes. I decided on the falafel as a starter (can’t go wrong there ;-) ) and something called the dream of Aquarius as the main course. For drinking I didn’t take their house specialty, but another juice.

The starters arrived quickly, but not my juice. When we almost finished the starters, the main courses already arrived. But still not my juice. I asked the waitress and she said that it was normal the a juice would take that long. I guess I should have order the house special, cause that arrived with the starters, but my juice arrived half through my main course. Better late than never I guess ;-)

Now the place was getting more and more busy and when we finished the main course and wanted to order some dessert, it was quite hard. After about 10 minutes we finally could get the attention of one of the waitresses. We wanted the carrot cake, but they didn’t have it :-( So we took the banana cream pie instead. It was funny, because a little later the waitress came with our bill, not with the cake, and she realized by the look on our faces, that she made a mistake. A little later she came up with the pieces of pie. It tasted okay, although not like the one at Cafe De Jaren and the bottom tasted a little burned. After finishing dessert we decided not to risk the waitress again and we went downstairs to pay up.

Golden Temple is an interesting place to come. It has nice dishes, also non-vegetarians should try, but the service is a bit slow, although friendly.
