FlamingoToday was a typical end of summer day in Amsterdam. Warm when the sun shines and needing a coat when the clouds come. And in Holland there are a lot of clouds! We decided today to go out of the center and go to the adjacent De Pijp area. Walking down the Albert Cuyp market there, half way we got fed up and spotted a new thing where Ralph’s Asian Wonderfood used to be. Now we had been to Ralph’s one time and the only wonderful thing about the food was the lack of flavor. So time to try the new place.

The place was called Flamingo and although with that name you would think they would put a fake plastic flamingo somewhere, I couldn’t spot it. We took a place at the terrace though, so it could have been hiding inside. Flamingo is located on one of the busiest places in De Pijp making it a nice place to sit and watch all the people go by. I was peckish, so I took a look at the lunch menu. Many standard type sandwiches on it, but the ox sausage with mustard and pickles sounded interesting. It didn’t take long for the waitress to come, so I ordered it with her and something to drink.

The sandwich arrived in a timely fashion and it was quite big. It was served on white turkish bread and when I finished it I was quite full! Now there were two girls sitting in the table in front of us and they ordered their home made carrot cake and after seeing it, we couldn’t resist it. So even though I was full, we ordered a carrot cake to share. The cake was as delicious as it looked :-)

After finishing everything we asked for the bill. When the bill showed up it was wrong, because almost all the things on it we hadn’t ordered. So we flagged down the waitress and asked her for the right bill, which came soon after. Unfortunately it wasn’t much cheaper than the bill we had before ;-)

Flamingo is a nice addition to De Pijp area, quick and friendly service and eatable food :-)
