Today I met my friend early, so instead of having lunch, we had to have brunch!
He had already picked a place he had spotted before, so we went there. Louter is a nice place on a corner in the De Clerqstraat, a little out of the center of Amsterdam. The place has large windows all around, making it a light, airy place. It was too cold today to sit outside on the terrace, so we took a place inside.
After looking at the menu a bit, the waiter came to our table to ask for our order. Since we hadn’t made a decision yet about what to eat we only ordered drinks. I ordered a fruit smoothie of the day. I took the large at €5 and was rather disappointed at the size when it arrived. I think it was a bit expensive for what I got and it just tasted like sour forest fruit.
A little later my friend ordered a fresh fig salad and me a yogurt with fresh fruit and a croissant with butter, making a nice luxury brunch
The salad was another disappointment. It was also too expensive (€7,50) for what my friend got. One fig cut in four pieces, some cucumber and some lettuce and some lost mozzarella somewhere. The yogurt and the croissant were fine though. The croissant was huge, so I gave half to my friend. The fresh fruit was really fresh, but I don’t understand why the yogurt and fruit is only €3,50 but the smoothie is 5! I guess blending costs 1 euro 50
After we finished eating one of the waitresses set the door ajar causing a big draft at our table. This made us move to another table away from the draft to take a coffee. The coffee was good quality. We then took the bill and left. By then all the mothers from the neighborhood started arriving with their children, so we left just in time
Louter is a nice place for a coffee and something to eat, but some things are a bit expensive for what you get. The staff is quick and correct though.
