The first Starbucks, well actually second, because the real first Starbucks in Holland is in the Nike HQ and for employees only, is in Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. And as I was going on holidays to Spain, I could finally visit it. Yeah! ![]()
After checking in and going through the security check at the airport the moment was finally there, the first Starbucks experience on Dutch soil in Terminal 1 of Schiphol.

And it was a bit disappointing
The whole thing was a big chaos. The place was rather busy when we arrived and we had about 10 minutes before the boarding of our flight began, so we thought we had enough time, based on foreign Starbucks experiences. But we were wrong. There were three people crowding behind the counter making a bit of a mess of the orders. The people behind the machines were trying to cope as best as possible so I give them credit for that.
We ordered two Grande Frappuccinos and about five minutes after ordering it we ended up with one tall Frappuccino. After trying to get the Frapuccino maker’s attention for several minutes, he was rather busy and the girl behind the coffee said we needed to talk to him, we got our two Grande Frappuccinos. By then our flight was already boarding, so we rushed from Starbucks to our gate drinking our Frappuccinos and me getting a cold headache in the process. Only to find out when we got to the gate boarding hadn’t even started yet. Pfffffff….
Anyway lots of room for improvement here. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, because they just started, but having so many good running places all over the world, you would think they could train the staff a little better. The things I missed compared to other Starbucks is they didn’t write your name on your cups, so they know who the order is for and some order at the cashregister. One guy working there was just shouting orders to the girl at the cashregister. Not the best way, because things will go wrong if people can’t order at the cashregister straight away, like in other Starbucks.
Anyway despite the chaos, I hope this will be the first of many more Starbucks to come

thats so cool
Actually, there’s on at Arrivals 4, too. My mother just went in there. It’s amazing!
I went there too and it is amazing! Read it here.
I was very disappointed, coffee was too cold, tast not so special and the people that worked there, were too arrogant to say how things worked in there shop. I didnot understand the system they worked with. So I stood there standing silly looking where my coffee could arrive. Where to pay? Awfull experience.
I have visited the Starbucks store at Schiphol several times now. It is almost always a disappointment. What as mess. I get better coffee and service at some of the Italian places in the Schiphol plaza.
And why would you want to drink the same coffee out of the same cups as anywhere else in the world? In Amsterdam there are plenty of very nice cafés that really make an effort. Very sad that so many people are so eager to have the same boring chains on every corner of every city in the world.
