Never having been to a Hard Rock Cafe anywhere in the world in my life, today was a good time for a first visit to the one in Amsterdam! Summer was gracing Amsterdam a little bit, no rain and just a few clouds. So after we dogged the door bitch of the Hard Rock Cafe (a lovely woman I bet, but still a door bitch
), we went outside to the little terrace they have on the dock on the back side. Lucky for us there was one table left!
After a few moments I started feeling some drops. Is it starting to rain again, I think… nooo, there is just some leakage from the big Hard Rock Cafe sign. More luck today, because if I had been on the table next to ours, I would have gotten really wet, cause the water was pouring down there. Anyway ignoring the little water, I started to look at the extensive menu. Typical american style food, burgers, mexican things, fries, onion rings etc. all for a little steep prices. But my friend was not a Hard Rock Cafe virgin and told me that for lunch we could easily share one plate, cause they were big enough for two. Yeah, american size portions too!
Finally we decided to share a plate of nachos and put the menu down. Then a very enthusiastic guy comes out asking for our order. I guess they get a training for that, because it’s really american and not very dutch. The guy must be so exhausted after his shift, acting like that all the time. Anyway we order our drinks (pepsi coke, they don’t have coca and a orange juice) and our nachos. Now comes the surprise that the nachos don’t really include much. For the chicken, guacamole and sour cream, we have to pay extra. But what are nachos without that, so we take it.
A while after our drinks the nachos arrive. My friend was right, it is a really big plate, more than enough to share. The nachos are okay, although the chicken is a bit burned and the ingredients could have been distributed a little more, but we enjoyed it anyway. When we finished the nachos a group of english girls arrived on the table next to us, but they didn’t have enough space, so we offered our table to them, cause we were finished. It’s a bit strange, because getting the bill then was quite an effort. You would think they want your money
All in all a little US of A in Amsterdam, american food, american service, very american.

[…] Another new thing in the new Belgica is the table service. Just a little while after we had sat down, there was already a waitress asking us if we wanted to place our order already. We had some trouble with the menu, which consists of some flip over cards, but we only wanted a coffee and something fresh anyway. So I ordered a latte and a new fancy kind of apple juice. On the menu were also various sandwiches and hot meals in case you fancy something to eat here. We were full though from a big salad at the Hard Rock Cafe. […]
