Pata NegraSince my spanish in-laws were visiting for an extended weekend, we went to have dinner at Pata Negra yesterday. Being a spanish tapas restaurant with spanish decor and spanish waiters I thought it was a good choice. Having spanish speaking in-laws gives you some inside information too! There are 2 Pata Negra’s in Amsterdam, but they are not of the same owner any more. They used to be owned by the same owners, but they sold one off. To be clear we went to the one not in the Utrechtsestraat ;-)

Back to the food, we order a table full of tapas, because with little plates you get greedy. We had 2 waiters serving us, one boasting spanish guy and one sweet spanish girl. I have to say the service was good. We were checked up on frequently and empty plates were taken away quickly. Also the food was excellent, although there is nothing better than home made spanish cuisine, but unless you have spanish in-laws, Pata Negra is a good second. The tapas are quite filling and some are quite heavy like the chorizo frito. I can recommend the huevos rellenos and the pulpo. We were too full to try the desserts, but next time i will save some space for the tarta de tiramisu :-)

Update: We went back here today and a word of warning. When it gets busy, the service gets bad. When we arrived at Pata Negra today, it was not so busy, so the tapas arrived all very quickly. But when it was time for dessert, it took us about 15 minutes to get the attention of one the waiters, because they were so busy running around. The tarta de tiramisu was fabulous though, although it was more a chocolate cake. But chocolate is always good :-)
