After walking from Leidseplein down the P.C. Hooftstraat looking at the posh shops there and the queue of people for the sale at Gucci, we needed a break. We had an appointment to meet some friends at the Cobra Cafe, but we needed a break now! So we decided to go to the Bagels & Beans at the Van Baerlestraat.
When we entered it was really busy, so we took up the only table that was free in the back of the place, right next to the counter. On the one hand it was a good place, because it was close to the back door, which was open and gave some cool air. It was another warm day in Amsterdam! On the other hand, I think we were in a blind spot even though we were right next to the counter, because it took almost ten minutes before we could place our order even though girls were running past all the time.
I ordered a fresh apple-carrot juice and I wanted the mega banana muffin, but they didn’t have it
They had a mega cranberry muffin instead. I decided to be adventurous and try it. It didn’t take too long for our order to arrive and it was fine. The muffin was good too. I made me feel less guilty about indulging, because it’s whole wheat and with cranberries, which makes it sound more healthy
We let our friends know we where at the Bagels & Beans and they arrived when we were half-way through our snack. But being in the blind spot the staff didn’t notice that new people had arrived. We finished our order and there were girls sneaking off quickly with the dishes, but never long enough for my friends to place an order. When finally we tried to flag a girl down, she brought the bill, instead of coming over to take an order! We took the hint, paid and left, without leaving a tip
Bagels & Beans is a nice place for a coffee or juice with a snack, but don’t sit in the blind spot. I recommend sitting more in the front of the place!
