After having a coffee with a friend in Cafe De Jaren, we discovered it was rather late to go for a real dinner in Amsterdam. It was already ten o’clock, the time that most restaurant already start to close their kitchen. So instead of going to the trouble of cooking at home, we decided to grab a sub at Subway.
Now Subway has had a flirt with Amsterdam before, opening a place where no one could find it, in an alleyway I don’t even know the name of. But now they have opened a Subway on the big street going from Rembrandtplein to de Munt. Far better! Also for them
Anyway getting the sub sandwich wasn’t much trouble. They have a conveyer belt process, where one person cuts the bread and puts on the topping of your choice and then toasts it if you want. Then the next person adds the lettuce and other toppings you can choose from and then the sauce. And then finally you can leave your money to another person at the cash register.
The people behind the counter were quite cheerful, although I could notice that the first guy felt a bit stupid asking the same questions all day (I can sympathize, since I have done that kind of work too
) And the girl was very insistent about putting lettuce on my sandwich even though I didn’t want it.
All in all a good place for grabbing a quick sub sandwich for lunch or for dinner ![]()
