La Place is the restaurant of the V&D department store. We went to the big one at the end of the Kalverstraat. The restaurant here is right next to the V&D and you can get things here to go or to have in the restaurant upstairs. It’s self-service, only hot dishes are prepared for you right on the spot. To make the place more profitable and keep the prices down, they mostly employ teenagers, although there are some more mature people walking around there keeping an eye on things.
It being self-service and mostly teenagers, the service is nothing to write home about. Especially if you want to have one of the warm meals, like steak or chicken, you might have to wait a while. But taking into account that it is a kind of fast food place, they are not doing bad compared to the McDonalds and Burger Kings. And the food is more healthy too.
We decided to share half a chicken with potatoes and a very tasty curry sauce. It took a few moments before we could get it, because the guy was making a new batch of curry sauce, so we didn’t mind. As we weren’t that hungry we decided not to take a salad from the buffet. I took a fresh tropical juice though 
Upstairs the best place is in the atrium overlooking the restaurant downstairs and we were lucky today to get a seat there. The chicken tasted good especially with the sauce and the juice was fine, although a few grape skins kept clogging my straw. After the chicken I took a coffee, but my friend wanted to take an icecream. When he returned from getting it, I was thinking he told the girl behind the icecream counter that it was his birthday or something, cause it was huge and only €2! I only took one bite and enjoyed my latte, which was not bad for a fast food place.
A good place to grab a quick tasty bite to eat, which is more healthy than the other types of fast food places.
