Some Spanish in-laws were visiting again and after roaming the streets of Amsterdam in search of a place to eat, we ended up at a tapas place of course. This restaurant, just off Leidseplein, is a bit confusing though, since it’s actually two restaurants in one. One with a a la carte menu and an other with the tapas menu. When we entered we were greeted by a rather surprised (or stressed out?) looking waitress. I asked for a table for 4, but there were none available at the moment in the tapas section, so we were invited to wait in the bar. The bar was at the other side of the restaurant and the route to it was rather strange past the kitchens (with more surprised looking kitchenstaff looking at us. I wonder if they were used to seeing customers, they should be cause it’s a rather busy restaurant
). At the bar, we were asked what we wanted to drink and got that straight away.
After about half an hour waiting the waitress came back telling us our table was ready. We got menu’s and ordered some more drinks. When the drinks arrived we were ready to order. We ordered an assortment of tapas for sharing. Unlike at Pata Negra all the tapas arrived in one go. The tapas were a bit disappointing, I think they were adapted to the Dutch market. For example the ensaladilla rusa had leaks in it, the shrimp croquetas looked and tasted like they came from Van Dobbe and the patatas bravas had a mixture of ketchup and mayonaise on it. The quality of the food was good, but it was not real Spanish tapas
As we were there at Spanish dinner time, the restaurant and service was winding down when we finished, so it took some time before we could get an order in for a coffee and later the bill. Probably the waitresses were already cleaning up. Still they remained friendly untill we left.
All in all a nice place to eat with adequate service for a busy place, but don’t expect real Spanish tapas though.

Jamon iberico:
Hi,
I think the best spanish tapa is Jamon Iberico
Do you?
Jamon Iberico is nice, but I also like huevos rellenos and empanadillas very much. But a tapas meal is more for foreigners than spanish. They just have it as a snack with their drink.
