On what was once a dead corner with only a stinky urinal now a new café has opened. Belgica has the décor of a belgian/french grand café. Something that is quite original for Amsterdam! They also have a terrace outside, but I don’t think that part gets much sun unfortunately.
Belgica also offers no table service, but bar service, meaning you have to go to the bar yourself to place and take your order. You get a nice tray though when you order too much for you to carry. The staff does walk around to clear off the tables, so that might be a bit confusing, since you can’t order with them. Anyway the service at the bar is quick enough and the café late I had tasted well enough. But as it gets busier and people start hanging around the bar, it’s harder to find a spot at the bar to place your order.
Overall a good, original addition to Leidseplein bringing some life to a once dead corner.
Update: Belgica has changed, read about it here.

Belgica as you describe it doesn’t exist any more, there’s a new café/restaurant (which I think is much better), but they kept the name Belgica.
Thank you for your comment, Simone. You are right that Belgica has changed, but I haven’t been there since the refurbishment. When I do I will of course post it here.
