This time we went for a dinner at L’entrecote et les dames. This is a restaurant with a special formula. They don’t have a a-la-carte menu, but a fixed menu for € 21,50, which includes, surprise, surprise, entrecote! For your 21,50 you get a green salad as a starter. It’s a very simple salad with lettuce, walnuts and a spicy mayo-musterd dressing, but although it’s simple, it tasted very good!
The main course is entrcote, or fish for meat haters, with french fries. The entrecote comes with a very tasty green sauce, which the waitress didn’t want to tell us the recipe of
it’s a secret! When you almost finish your plate the waitress comes back and offers to serve you some seconds. And of course we couldn’t say no to that! Then it was time for dessert, but we were too full to order any, so we got the bill and we left. The dessert is seperate from the fixed menu though.
That’s an advantage of this place. The service is very quick, so if you are in a hurry, if for example you have a concert to catch at the Concertgebouw across the street, this is a good place to go.
One word of warning for weary travellers. The water the waitress offers you when you sit down is mineral water so you are charged for it. In our case a bottle of sparkling mineral water was 5 euros! Understandable since they need to make some money, but a little warning would have been nice. But with all the wine we had, we didn’t notice
update (30-09-2007): We went here again last night, but there seem to have been some changes. First of all the portions seem to be smaller than before. They try to hide it by cutting the beef differently, but nothing escapes our scrutiny
And secondly the service was a lot slower. Usually they serve the seconds when you finish the first serving. This time we had to wait about ten minutes before they finally offered us seconds.
