During my recent visit to my Madrid, I got to enjoy the Starbuck experience every day. Like in the States, Madrid is flooded with them and I don’t mind. I love their Chai Tea Latte and their Koffie Verkeerd and especialy their whole wheat muffin. Sinful eating, but not feeling guilty, because it’s whole wheat. But here in Amsterdam, no Starbucks to be found! We do have some fake, wanna-be Starbucks like the Coffee Company or Bagels&Beans. But the coffee at the Coffee Company is really bad! And the muffins really, really small!
Actually this is part of our theory. Dutch people like bad coffee. They complain yes, but they keep on drinking it. At work, at home, at the Coffee Company. They don’t care! And that might be why Starbucks doesn’t dare to open locations in Amsterdam. Dutch people won’t appreciate it.
Another strange thing is, is that the coffee beans for Starbucks arrive here. Yes here in Amsterdam and then gets distributed all over Europe. So if the coffee is here already, why not sell it here too? Personally I can’t wait!
