After months of promise and waiting Starbucks has finally opened it’s doors on Amsterdam Central Station. After opening a location at Utrecht CS, the wait began for the one at Amsterdam CS. First the opening was promised for spring 2009, then summer and now in november 2009 it has finally opened. For me personally it’s a little too late and I am over my Starbucks obsession. After my holidays in the UK and the discovery of Costa Coffee, now I am a Costa Coffee fan
If Starbucks will work here at the stations remains to be seen. The prices for a coffee at Starbucks are quite high and there are many alternatives at the station for getting a coffee at a cheaper price. They are right next to the HEMA for example which has coffees and cappuccinos for a lot less and probably not much worse flavor. I do prefer Starbucks coffee over the omni present Coffee Company here. When I go to the Coffee Company I take a Chai tea latte instead of a coffee, just because I cannot stand their coffee anymore.
I think Starbucks (or Costa Coffee
) should open a location on the Leidseplein here in Amsterdam. There is a huge empty space from the ABN Amro bank now, that is a prime location for something like that. Anyway once I have gone to the Starbucks on the Amsterdam Central Station I will post my experiences here of course!

Coffee Plaza is a new discovery in the Jan Pieter Heijestraat close to the Overtoom. Coffee Plaza offers different kinds of coffee of course, fresh juices and smoothies, different pastries and sandwiches. The sandwiches are made to order. I have been here a few times now and it’s a nice place to come. The staff is very friendly. One time I was sitting in the window waiting for my friend and one of the staff came and asked for my order. This was quite surprising, because you are supposed to order at the counter. The other times I did order at the counter. In the counter all the pastries are on display to tempt you.
One time I was tempted by a morning muffin, which is a kind of muffin with muesli in it. The other time I took a bolo de arroz, which also was some kind of muffin cake, but then made from rice flower. It did not taste like rice though
It was quite nice actually, so I recommend you try it when you are there.
I also tried one of their smoothies. On the menu it said it was with low-fat frozen yogurt. When I got it though, I didn’t taste any yogurt. It tasted more like a thick fruit juice. The coffee here is also very good. You can also add a flavor if you want. I haven’t tried the sandwiches here yet, but judging by what the other customers got, they look okay.

Coffee Plaza is a nice place to come, the food and service is good and on a nice day you can even sit outside.

Today was a good day in Amsterdam, warm and sunny. My friend and me were looking for a place to sit down on the Kinkerstraat, but everything was full. So when we reached Gary’s Deli and it’s terrace was also full, we decided to sit in the door of the place next to it called My Burrito. My Burrito serves, as the name says, burritos but also tacos, quesadilla’s and salads. My Burrito makes everything fresh every day and uses as much eco friendly products as possible.
We sat down in the window and the owner of the shop gave us a menu to decide what we wanted. I decide to take the chicken taco and a juice and my friend took a quesadilla and a biological coffee, freshly brewed and a refill costs only fifty cents
Our taco and quesadilla arrived very quickly. My friend and me decided to share, so we could both taste them. The taco was difficult to eat, also because the utensils were wooden and the knife didn’t really cut, and it didn’t have so much flavor. The quesadilla was delicious though.
When the owner came to clear our table, he asked how everything was and we told him about the taco that we thought that the chicken didn’t have so much flavor. He told us that the chicken is only slightly marinated and that the beef has a more spicy and pronounced taste, so we might try that the next time. And then when we went to settle the bill, he didn’t even charge us for the taco. Now that is friendly service.
My Burrito is a good place to grab a burrito or something else. Everything is fairly price, especially for eco friendly products and the service is friendly.
